Browny encontró algo...

Y esto que es?

Exploring Ultimaker Nylon in my posable skeleton.

I made some modifications for the PLA skeleton I did for Hortensia.
Hortensia can stand and pose, but some joints were too loose.

I added some extrusions from the spheres so they will lock to the two parts of the long bones.   This is an example:

Working with nylon

Now I printed the same modified skeleton with nylon.
I used brim, 40% dense supports and the same setting Cura decided for normal printing.

Primary results

Pros

  • It prints fine.
  • The rotation of the joints is smoother than with PLA.
  • Supports and brim are very easy to remove, sometimes I  could remove it with no tools while it was still hot.

Cons

  • It bends the same as PLA, and looses friction overtime.  (I have some design ideas to improve this).
  • It got clogged twice between the Bowden tube and the extruder.
  • It is more expensive than PLA.
  • It is not so good for very little objects, like the hand joints. Spheres are 4mm diameter, cylindrical parts, 3mm diameter.  This is a variation from Hortensias´ skeleton.  Like in the other joints.  I printed all with 40% dense supports.  It worked well for bigger objects, it wasn't so good for these:

My next steps...

Next, I will try to 3D print the files with Ultimaker nylon.

I want to see if it improves the posablility of the skeleton.

And then I will try other skeletons for animal Characters maybe.

The 3D files to print Hortensia's skeleton are now free!!

You can download the files from    CGTrader   Thingiverse

You can see the files HERE

If you downloaded the files, please leave feedback to know if it worked for you.  If you need help to assemble it, please let me know.

El proceso de armado de Hortensia y su esqueleto con la ayuda de Apple.

Un demo del tutorial:

HORTENSIA is ready.

After almost a year of investigation and work, and  many, many trials and errors, I could find a way to give my Crochet Elf Characters, a skeleton.

It can be improved still, but it works pretty good as it is.

It is a 3D printed skeleton.

I have worked hard to find a way to design it so it can be posed.

And I made Hortensia to try it.

You can find the skeleton files to print in CGTrader

And the tutorial with detailed instruction as to how to crochet Hortensia, how to assemble the skeleton, and how to put it all together is in ETSY.

And...   here she is....

Better friction in all joints, gives strength in difficult poses...

Holding the screwdriver with the magnet.  Now the hip and knee can hold it.  Making bigger spheres for the joints.
